Made My Day

This weekend my two granddaughters came to visit.  As I was chasing my little 1-1/2 year old around the first floor (it is a slow chase game), my 3-year old was having a snack in the kitchen.  As we rounded the door from the dining room into the kitchen, my 3-year old commented to her Grandma:

My Three Year-old Granddaughter Does Not Walk

She runs; everywhere.  Ever since she became bipedal, she has run.  Ask her to get you something, she runs to get it and runs back with it.  So when I asked her to go wash her hands for lunch, she ran for the bathroom, took a right turn out of the kitchen, miscalculated and took an early right turn right into the  …. wall.  The bathroom door being about one foot further.

Before I could even react, she got up from her face plant, dusted herself off (luckily, she is very light and simply bounced off the wall), and said to no one in particular, “That’s alright, I’m O.K.” and went into the bathroom to wash her hands.

I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

Conversations With My Granddaughter

My oldest granddaughter is three and she, her sister, and her parents are visiting us.

Granddaughter: “Grandpa!!”

Grandpa: “You’re awake!”

Granddaughter: “Come quickly I see a doggie outside by itself.”

Grandfather (joining his granddaughter at her window): “Maybe it was a baby deer.”

Granddaughter: “Surely, a baby deer wouldn’t be without her mother!”
